Kristyn and Martin started their early winter wedding day at The Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth, Michigan. Everyone got ready for the day at the hotel and it was a flurry of makeup, dresses, sisters laughing with each other and pregnant friends loudly wishing for a pop of that champagne. In other words, it was nothing short of fun to spend the morning with this group of friends and family. Seth and I had an adventure getting lost in the hallways of the Inn while photographing details shots of Kristyn’s dress and accessories. Those halls are both winding and gorgeous!
Based in Grand Rapids where their love story started, Kristyn and Martin flip flopped between keeping their wedding on their original date in December 2020 and moving their wedding date up to a venue in their area on a different date. In the end, they chose to stick with their winter wedding in Plymouth and shared their vows in church in front of their closest friends and family. I was more than excited to photograph their day either way – I’m always down for a trip to the west side of the state!
Sadly, the reception was cancelled due to COVID, we had some extra time to wander around downtown Plymouth before the ceremony. Plymouth has to be one of my favorite downtown areas – you can check out Kim and Mike’s engagement session here, where we ended up in a lot of the same locations. We also made a pit stop by Honey Hole for some photos by their painted wall and a visit from Kristyn’s little niece and nephew.
After the ceremony, the whole wedding party headed out to downtown Northville, Michigan where restaurants were serving in the streets, people were huddled around lit fires, and the lights for Christmas were bright and beautiful. Since it was a gorgeous night, we were tempted to stick around and enjoy a drink near a fire after we left the wedding party for the night – but, you know, COVID. Oh well, there’s always next year, right?
