I’ve recently started incorporating video chats in my booking process with brides and couples. Now, I’m very introverted so getting in front of people has not been something that I willingly did in the past, but I’ve found that it’s incredibly helpful when helping a couple make the best choice in photographer for their day. Seth knows Katie’s mom from his time being a bowling coach at Milford High School – so when she mentioned that her daughter needed a photographer for her day, Seth sent her my way. My video chat with Katie and her mom went exactly how I always hope they will – finding someone who is just as laid back and admittedly awkward as I am. It was like Katie and I knew we would get along just fine.
Backyard weddings have become more and more popular since the pandemic and I’m always happy to be a part of wedding days that veer from the traditional and hit closer to intimate. Katie and Robbie’s day was just that – simple and fun. Fun fact, my good friends over at Ratliff Rental had been to the house just before me to set up their chairs! After the ceremony, which was held in Katie’s parents’ newly renovated backyard, we took a trip to the Waterford Historical Society which was incredibly charming. A reception at Overtyme Grill & Tap was waiting for us after our romp at the historical society.
Honestly, the best part of backyard weddings is that the getting ready location and ceremony are all in once spot. Plus, if it’s somewhere special to you, like your family home, it makes the day even more meaningful. For Katie and Robbie’s day, we were able to walk down to the lake for some photos right after the ceremony and before we went adventuring. A good friend of theirs acted as officiant and the wedding party wore converse in red and black. I so love when couples add things to their day that make it true to their personalities. For Katie and Robbie – this was having a casual and fun-loving atmosphere. Not only that – can we talk about Katie’s dress? She looked like a woodland princess and I could not get over how gorgeous it was.
